In the Dwenem community in the Gyamaa South district of the Bono Region, a 20-year-old son, Kwaku Obed, allegedly took the life of his mother, Afia Emelia, after an argument over his smoking habit. The disturbing event has left the local community in shock and sorrow.
Aboroway reported on Kessben FM’s Breaking noted that the tragic incident occurred after Afia Emelia, a mother known for her caring nature, advised her son to stop smoking. Her concern for his health and future led to a heated discussion, as she encouraged him to break free from the dangerous habit. However, instead of heeding his mother’s wise counsel, Kwaku Obed reportedly became enraged by the advice, leading to a violent confrontation.
In a fit of anger, Kwaku Obed allegedly attacked his mother with a cutlass during the argument on their farmland. The fatal blow left Afia Emelia seriously wounded, and despite her efforts to survive, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after the attack. The tragedy has left the community in disbelief, as the relationship between mother and son, which should have been one of care and respect, tragically ended in violence.
Residents of Dwenem were horrified to learn of the violent outcome, and many have expressed their shock at how a simple motherly intervention, meant to guide and protect her son, led to such a devastating result.
