Hon Asenso Boakye, the Member of Parliament for Bantama, has spoken out forcefully against the violent actions allegedly perpetrated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the Council of State Election in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday.
The Council of State elections, a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic process, have been overshadowed by violent altercations in the Ashanti Region, a stronghold for the NPP.
Reports have surfaced of NDC supporters engaging in violent clashes during the voting process, leading to heightened fears about the safety and fairness of the elections. In response to these incidents, Hon. Asenso Boakye has condemned the acts.
Hon. Asenso Boakye speaking on Kessben TV with KOD was blunt in his condemnation of the NDC’s actions, emphasizing that the NDC holds a minority position in the Ashanti Region and must respect the results of the Council of State elections. He argued that the majority of the people in the region support the NPP, and thus, the NDC should not be attempting to destabilize the electoral process.”
Despite his firm stance against the violence, Hon. Asenso Boakye also emphasized the importance of peaceful elections and the need for both political parties to prioritize national unity over partisanship. He appealed to the NDC to cease their violent actions and allow the democratic process to proceed without fear or intimidation.
As the situation in the Ashanti Region remains fraught with uncertainty, the eyes of the nation are now focused on the Council of State elections and how the parties involved will navigate this increasingly volatile situation.
