Ghana HIV and AIDS Network Marks Successful Beach Campaign, Distributes Over 50,000 Condoms

The Ghana HIV and AIDS Network has successfully concluded its beach campaign, which aimed to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS during the Christmas festivities. The event, which took place along the beach, saw the distribution of over 50,000 condoms and more than 500 HIV self-test kits.

According to Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin, President of the Ghana HIV and AIDS Network, the campaign was a huge success, with many people volunteering to get tested for HIV. “We realized that during the Christmas festivities, people tend to get carried away and engage in risky sexual behaviors. That’s why we decided to have this event to create awareness and encourage people to protect themselves,” he explained.

The campaign, which started on December 26, saw a team of volunteers distributing condoms and HIV self-test kits to beachgoers. The team also provided counseling and education on HIV and AIDS prevention.

Ortsin revealed that the network plans to continue its awareness campaign throughout the year, starting with Valentine’s Day. “We will be having lots of activations in different locations, not just along the beaches, but in other areas as well. We want to educate the public about the dangers of HIV and AIDS and encourage them to stay safe,” he said.

The Ghana HIV and AIDS Network collaborated with the National AIDS Control Program to implement the campaign. The program manager is expected to address the gathering and provide an update on the national response to HIV and AIDS.

The successful beach campaign is a testament to the network’s commitment to raising awareness about HIV and AIDS in Ghana. With its plans to continue the campaign throughout the year, the network is poised to make a significant impact in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
