NDC’s John Mahama leading in 2024 Presidential elections, EC to declare results soon
As Ghana’s 2024 Presidential election results begin to emerge, former President John Dramani Mahama is currently leading the race, ahead of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Early, unofficial results from various regions indicate a strong showing for Mahama, who is representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with significant support in both urban and rural constituencies.
Mahama’s lead is particularly pronounced in key regions such as the Volta and Western areas, where he has historically performed well. His campaign, which focused on addressing economic challenges, creating jobs, and strengthening democratic institutions, appears to have resonated with many voters. His leadership during his previous term remains a notable factor in his bid for a comeback, with supporters rallying behind his promise of change.
In contrast, Bawumia, who has positioned himself as a candidate focused on technological advancements, economic stability, and the continuity of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s policies, has shown strong support in areas like the Ashanti and Northern regions. While he is trailing Mahama at the moment, the election remains highly competitive, with many key constituencies still to be fully counted.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the public to remain patient as the counting process continues. While the unofficial data from polling stations suggests a tight race, the EC is working to verify all results before making any official declarations. EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa reassured Ghanaians that the results would be made public soon, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and transparency in the electoral process.
Both Mahama’s NDC and Bawumia’s NPP have urged their supporters to remain calm and peaceful as the final results are awaited. With the Electoral Commission indicating that the official outcome will be declared within the next 24 hours, Ghanaians are eagerly awaiting the final tally to determine who will lead the country into the next phase of its political future.
While Mahama currently holds a slight edge, the race is still too close to call, and the coming hours will be crucial in determining the final result of this highly contested election.
