Ghana Election Update: EC and Security Agencies Confirm Readiness for December Polls

The National Election Security Taskforce met on November 26, 2024, to discuss final preparations for the upcoming December elections. Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) addressed the gathering, highlighting significant milestones achieved so far.

Key takeaways from the meeting include:

– Ballot papers have been distributed to Police Regional Armouries in all but three regions, with the remaining regions expected to receive theirs by the end of the day.
– Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) for eight regions have been distributed, with the remaining regions set to receive theirs by the weekend.
– All political parties, the Ghana Police, and other stakeholders have been involved in the printing and distribution process.
– Approximately 210,000 officers have been recruited for the elections, with training already underway.
– The EC has developed short videos and Aid Memoirs to facilitate the collation process and address potential issues.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr Akuffo Dampare assured the nation of the security agencies’ readiness to ensure peace before, during, and after the elections. He commended the EC for its efforts, noting that the Police have been witnesses to the EC’s work throughout the electoral process.

The Special Voting for Security Agencies, the Media, and Election Officers will take place on December 2, while the Main Election is scheduled for December 7. The EC urges all registered voters to cast their votes peacefully and in an orderly manner.
