Auditor-General Hails Government’s Support for Independent Audit Service”
The auditor General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu has lauded government’s efforts towards retooling the audit service. According to him, the government has embarked on a drive to provide office complexes across the country.
Speaking at the commissioning of one of the office’s at Asamankese, the head of the audit service noted that the drive will aid the office effectively undertake its responsibilities.
According to the auditor General, the service has in the past years struggled with office accommodation challenges stressing that they had to rely on district assemblies to provide them with office spaces and in some instances they had to rent same.
‘Until recently, the state of our office accommodation was very pathetic. This been because about 70% office accommodation were given to us by the respective assemblies. Only 30% been offices belonging to the audit service.’
He however stressed that the government’s commitment in establishing the district and regional offices has gone a long way to support their activities.
‘ We are grateful to the government of Ghana, for the unwavering support to accountability institutions and agencies.’
Auditor General further noted that the construction of such buildings will help in keeping the service independent.
