Cocoa Farmers Are Thriving, Not Struggling, – Says Professor Quarm
Dr. Albert Joseph Quarm, widely known as Prof. Quarm and a member of the NPP campaign team, has stated on Kessben TV’s Adwenkyere Show that, contrary to popular belief, cocoa farmers are indeed benefiting from their work.
He highlighted that while a bag of cocoa in 2016 was worth 475 Ghana cedis, allowing farmers to buy only 13 bags of cement, the current price of 3,100 Ghana cedis per bag can now purchase 31 bags of cement.
Prof. Quarm noted that, with this increase, cocoa farmers are now financially capable of pursuing building projects and other personal goals, indicating the NPP government’s commitment to supporting cocoa farmers.
Additionally, he mentioned the government’s free tertiary education initiative for the children of cocoa farmers. He explained that the government has gathered comprehensive data on cocoa farmers, covering the number of acres they own, their workforce, and the number of children, to better tailor support.
According to Prof. Quarm, this data will enable the government to offer free education to the 87,500 children of cocoa farmers recorded in its system so far.
He discussed these achievements as part of the New Patriotic Party’s contributions to the cocoa sector, urging Ghanaians to support the NPP in the upcoming elections.
