NEIP set to train 100,000 youth in hands on skills to boost 120,000 jobs
The National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Program( NEIP) as part of the effort to address youth unemployment to enable them become job independent have launch yet another initiative program dubbed “skills for jobs project” in Accra.
The project, set to train 100,000 youth will provide 120,000 practical skills for jobs particularly in trade areas to reduce rural urban drift across the country and is geared towards training youth in all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies( MMDAs).
The respective skills training includes, mobile phone repairs, key cutting, cct installation, decor, make up artistry, pedicure and manicure, cosmetics, baking, producing assorted drinks and among others.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer( CEO) of National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Programme, Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, said the programme is on the back drop of the Kayayei Employment Programme which close to 5,000 women were trained in various skills.
He explained that H.E Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the Vice President tasked his outfit to roll out more initiatives and programmes in the bid to solve the youth unemployment in the country by providing them with the requisite hands on skills to enhance livelihood
“NEIP has supported 250,000 beneficiaries with 35,000 business receiving starter packs as well as releasing funding to about 15,000 self owned companies”, he added.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Finance in Charge of Wealth Creation, Dr. Stephen Amoah challenged the youth to take advantage of the training programme saying it will support them to enhance the livelihoods and secure jobs.
He said government have put in place fervent preparations to roll out more programmes as part of the drive to reduce youth unemployment through skills projects for employment creation.
” These are the jobs that the youth of today needs of which the NPP government have delivered to the satisfaction to the youth”, he said adding that the NDC government have nothing to offer the youth.
