National Amputee Football Team Appeals To Govt to Fast Track Payment of winning packages

The Management and players of the National Amputee Football Team, the Black Challenge has made a passionate appeal to government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to kindly release their winning packages after emerging as winners in the recent African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) tournament.

He therefore pleaded with government to come to the financial aid of the players by fast tracking the payment of the winning packages due to the players and officials of the team.

It will be called that, the Black Challenge the defending champions participated in the tournament which kick started from 17th to 28th May, 2024 Cairo Egypt and defeated Morocco by 2 goals to 1 in the final match and were crown as champions securing the team a spot at the 2026 Amputee World Cup.

The team in these regard used the occasion also to pay a courtesy call to present the trophies to the Minister of

Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif at the sports ministry.

The Founder of Talent Hour for Persons with Disabilities and a Member of the Ghana National Amputee Football Team, Mr, Samuel Obeng Ansah, thanked his excellency President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo for his unwavering commitment and support to the team.

He praised the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammad Amin Adams for highlighting the brilliant performance and the winning of the tournament by the Black Challenge in the government mid the year fiscal policy review of the budget statement and Economic Policy for the 2024 financial year.

According to him, the Black Challenge incredible performances at the global Amputee Football  Tournament has brought honour to the country and pointed out that the team have won three trophies in four years.

Mr Samuel Obeng disclosed that some foreign base players have to go back to their respective football clubs and explained that prior to the tournament the players

paid  for their own air tickets to represent Ghana and however pleaded again to Government to humbly pay their bonuses and allowances and also entreat the sports ministry to help facilitate their winning packages either in cash or in kind.

He hinted further that the players encounter challenges such as bills on rent, caring for immediate families as well as projects that they have embarked upon to have a comfortable life after retirement from football.

Mr. Obeng  mentioned rewards such as cars, houses among others that are offered to players in other countries and thus urged government to emulate an example in the bid to boost the morale of players for lifting the flag of Ghana globally at the Amputee football space.

” Club officials appreciate government commitment to disability football and stakeholders in the football fraternity in building the capacity of amputee football clubs in the country”, he added.
