PNC Leader Rejects Outcome of “Fraudulent” Elections, Cites Constitutional Violations
The leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Hon. David Apasera, has rejected the outcome of the party’s national delegates conference held on September 7, 2024, citing constitutional violations and fraudulent practices.
In a press conference held on September 8, 2024, Apasera expressed his disappointment and concern over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to proceed with the elections despite an injunction summons filed by the North East Regional Secretary of the PNC.
Apasera stated that the EC’s actions were in clear violation of the party’s constitution and the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which requires political parties to have a national character in nature. He emphasized that the elections cannot be considered free and fair when only a few regions participated, with some recording as low as 40 or 52 voter participation.
The PNC leader also alleged that the EC officials had transported ballot papers to the airport single-handedly, raising suspicions of potential rigging. He stressed that the supposed outcome of the elections cannot be regarded as constitutional and democratic.
Apasera announced that he remains the bonafide leader of the PNC until a properly supervised national delegates conference is held. He assured party supporters that the PNC will work hard to ensure that the party fields a presidential candidate for the December 7, 2024, general elections.
The development has created further divisions within the party, with Apasera vowing to take all necessary steps to address the situation and ensure that the right thing is done under the spirit of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
