NSS 2024-2034 Policy Launched By President Akufo – Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has launched a new policy for the National Service Scheme (NSS) in Ghana, aiming to transform the organization over the next decade.
The policy, titled NSS 2024-2034, focuses on developing graduates and shaping them for success in their respective fields. The launch event, held at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra, was themed “Innovative Deployment: Developing Prospects for the Future.”
President Akufo-Addo stressed the importance of stakeholders, including the government, international partners, user agencies, universities, and institutions, embracing the policy document. He assured that the government would provide the necessary support and resources to ensure its successful implementation.
The President highlighted that the NSS had operated without clear guidelines for years, making the policy document a significant paradigm shift.
The government’s agenda includes adequately preparing service personnel for the transition from school to the workforce. President Akufo-Addo emphasized the role of the state in providing direction and opportunities for citizens’ development. Initiatives like the Free SHS and Free TVET programs demonstrate the government’s commitment to building human capital. With the number of institutional graduates increasing annually, reaching 150,000, the President emphasized the need to strengthen the NSS to effectively transform this critical mass.
The policy document is expected to enhance capacities, reinforce structures, and enable the NSS to mobilize and deploy a growing number of graduates to areas of national priority.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of the youth, citing statistics from the 2021 National Population and Housing Census. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing opportunities for the youth to realize their dreams.
The Executive Director of the NSS, Osei Assibey Antwi, acknowledged the significance of stakeholders’ presence at the launch and praised their contributions to creating opportunities under the policy. He emphasized the correlation between the establishment of the policy and operational and institutional productivity.
Mr. Assibey Antwi noted that a structured framework would streamline operations, align resources, and improve service delivery. In conclusion, the launch of the NSS policy for 2024-2034 aims to revolutionize the organization’s operations by focusing on graduate development and success.
