Dreams FC tops Group C to reach quarter finals in Caf Confederations Cup

Ghana’s sole representative in the Caf Confederations Cup, Dreams FC have topped their group to reach quarter-finals of the competition. This means a Ghanaian side has topped a group in any African club competition since 2004 when Kotoko and Hearts made it into the finals.

The 2023 FA Cup Champions made their debut in Africa this season. They eliminated Milo Club of Guinea in the preliminary stages and also beat FC Kallon of Sierra to reach the group stages of the competition which became very historic.

After the group draw was made, Dreams FC were paired with Club Africain(Tunisia), Rivers United(Nigeria) and Academica do Lobito(Angola). Coach Karim Zito’s side won 4 out of the 6 group games picking all the home points and winning in Angola against Academica.

Despite loosing by 2:1 in Nigeria against Rivers United, they are still through. Abdul Aziz Issah scored before the end of the first half. Echeta Ugonna equalized in the 61st and Kazie Godswill scored the crucial goal after 90 minutes in the last 10 minutes added on.

Rivers United have also managed to reach the quarter finals after Club Africain bottled it on in their last group encounter against Academica do Lobito in Tunisia.

Eight teams are into the last eight of the Caf Confederations Cup including defending champions USM Algers(Algeria), Zamalek(Egypt), RS Berkane(Morocco), Dreams FC(Ghana), Abu Salem(Libya), Modern Future(Egypt), Stade Malien(Mali) and Rivers United(Nigeria).

The draw for the quarter final will be held within this month as the first leg of the quarter finals will be played on the weekend of 31st March and the second will be 7th of April.
