Parliament to use local languages

The committees on education, finance, culture, and tourism have been instructed by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to investigate the reasons behind the seeming disappearance of regional languages in the nation and offer suitable suggestions for thought.

This comes as lawmakers expressed alarm about the rising disregard for regional languages, especially in the nation’s schools, and the pressing need to reverse this unsettling trend.

At the next sitting of Parliament, the Speaker revealed that preparations are in motion to modernize the chamber’s technology to support the use of regional languages during legislative sessions.

“What we will do is, during the next recess, we will definitely transform this Chamber, and we will try to put these IT systems in place and employ people to help us understand each other because we will encourage members to speak in the local languages.”
