Stop The SLASH And BURN ‘ Politics- Dr Adutwum
One of the BEST Education Ministers Ghana has ever had, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum has called for clean constructive politics in the country rather than undercutting their political opponents to win political power. Speaking on some important issues to this paper in his office , the indefatigable Education Minister bemoaned the attitude and methods of some politicians who go round denigrating their opponents to depopularise them to gain undue favour from the electorates . “
“When you’re campaigning, tell the people what you can do but not bastardise programs and policies of your opponents you know can elevate your opponents Tell the truth give praise where praise is due .
For instance if you have issues of our educational system, provide an alternative to convince the electorates to decipher and make sound judgement . However, you don’t go round to peddle lies and diabolocally pull your opponents down with naked lies and propaganda. This is what they call ‘SLASH AND BURN’ in the USA just so that you will poison the minds of electorates to win their sympathy; this is not healthy for nation building” The Minister who showed the new JHS buildings under construction in all the 16 regional capitals that will incorporate the various disciplines to replace the dilapidated worn out schools in our villages on slide. He called them the modern day educational facilities as multi purpose, well equipped and user friendly.
“Am poised to transforming the educational landscape of our country. When l showed the new structures to the New Year school at Legon they were stunned and awed. And l told them this is what l want to leave you with .People who don’t dream big think and don’t wish the country well think it cannot be done but I have the strongest conviction that it can be done and we are on course “.
The minister said all pre and post colonial school buildings would be pulled down one after the other till all those old dilapidated structures give way to modern school buildings .
“We want to eliminate the old system of educational infrastructures and replace them with new ones to make teaching and learning attractive. I believe that education is a major tool that can absolve the country from poverty and deprivation “,he intimated.
