Ayawaso East By-Election: Over 40,000 people to vote and elect new MP today

According to a report filed by Kessben FM’s Derrick Kwame Barfi, over 40,000 registered voters in the Ayawaso East Constituency are set to cast their ballots on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, to choose a new Member of Parliament.

The by-election follows the passing of the area’s MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January 2026, which created a vacancy in Parliament.

After holding their respective primaries, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) named Baba Ali as its parliamentary candidate, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) selected former High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, to contest the seat.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has assured constituents of a peaceful and well-organised electoral process.

The EC had indicated that adequate preparations had been made to guarantee a free and fair poll. He further warned against electoral offences, particularly vote-buying, stressing that any confirmed cases of malpractice would be dealt with accordingly.

Meanwhile, security officers have been stationed at polling centres throughout the constituency to ensure peace and order during the exercise.
