People of Volta also pay taxes – MP for Keta slams Akufo Addo
Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta has slammed President Akufo Addo after his statement made during his visit to the Volta region following the flood in some parts of the Volta region triggered by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The MP for Keta said the words stressed what the president said it not even not true because in 2016 the NPP had 60,000 votes from the Volta region and in 2020 when Volta and Oti were divided the NPP got about 40,000 votes from these regions. “So, on what basis is he saying that they didn’t vote for him”? He quizzed.
He made it clear that the people of the Volta region pay taxes because they are also Ghanaians so it is a must for the President to serve all citizens, regardless of their voting preference.
According to him, the President has no excuse because he is the President of Ghana and the Volta region is also part of Ghana. He says their taxes are what is being used to finance development so the president can not come and look at their faces and make those remarks.
