Pamitouch Foundation pilots ‘TTAG goes digital’ initiative
Pamitouch Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has organized a 3-day training programme dubbed “TTAG goes digital” at the Accra College of Education to leverage on technology for effective teaching and learning.
Participants were taken through skills training, beginning with Wikipedia and its related tools, and were guided on topics such as Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, and Wikiversity.
The training further covered practical application of Wikipedia and its sister tools, especially with regards to how one can create, edit, upload, and manipulate content on Wikipedia.
In a presentation, resource persons from the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT provided lessons on Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Excel as well as some aspects of cyber security.
Digital skills
Speaking at the programme, Miss Pamela Aboagyewaa Mantey, the founder of Pamitouch Foundation, emphasized the importance of digital skills in the 21st century in the life of a teacher, adding that technology and innovation can drive the transformation of Ghana and Africa at large.
She encouraged the participants to aim beyond the skies and never cease to keep learning and exploring new concepts to broaden their horizon and make meaningful impacts on their students.
Ms. Pamela Aboagyewaa Mantey commended the teacher trainees for their seriousness and commitment to acquire digital skills and hoped that they would impart the knowledge gained in the classroom upon completion.
The National President of Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana, Nana Kwame Jephthah expressed the association’s gratitude for the opportunity and appealed for further training in all the 46 Colleges of Education across the country.
Special awards were given to students who demonstrated commitment and excellence in various aspects of the Wikipedia training.
