Couple Sells Their 8-Month-Old Baby to Purchase iPhone

The insatiable craving for social validation led parents to put up their child up for sale. Most people would assume that it’s hard to put a value on a child, but a couple from West Bengal had no trouble attaching a price tag to their bundle of joy.

A couple was ready to sacrifice their eight-month-old baby in order to purchase an iPhone 14, with the intention of creating reels on Instagram to document their travels.

The strange parenting priorities caused public outrage and the parents were shamed for their materialistic desires.

A police complaint has been filed against the couple regarding the transaction and the woman who bought the child. Police caught a lady named “Sathi” during the investigation, but Jaydev Ghosh, the child’s father, is still missing. Officials are trying to track down his whereabouts after complaints from the concerned neighbors.

Alarm bells went off for the neighbors when the eight-month-old baby went missing and the parents weren’t worried about the child.

The neighbors got more suspicious when the family bought an iPhone 14 and it’s not a transaction one would expect from anguished parents. A new device was particularly bizarre for the Ghosh family since they were facing financial difficulties.

After witnessing the behavior of the parents, the neighbors confronted the couple and the mother confessed to the sale. She told them that she and her husband had made the decision to swap their infant for the money to buy an iPhone.

She admitted to needing the device to create social media content. For most parents, Instagram reels hit differently with an empty crib, but this couple didn’t mind giving up their baby.

It’s not a one-time lapse in judgment for the father since he has also tried to sell his seven-year-old daughter. When the finances are tight, he tries to strike gold by selling off his loved ones.

“After selling the boy, Jaydev also tried to sell the girl on Saturday midnight. We informed the police as soon as we understood it. Police have arrested Jaydev,” said Local Councilor Tarak Guha.

Following the police investigation, the couple and the woman who bought the baby are subject to criminal charges for human trafficking.
