Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, who has been assigned additional duty as acting Ashanti Regional Minister has promised to unify the NDC in the Ashanti region.
Speaking exclusively to Kessben TV on his new appointment, Mr Opoku, who is the only government appointee holding overseeing two regions, said he was very happy to be back in Kumasi even though he will serve in an acting capacity.
Mr Opoku, who is also the MP for Asunafo North in the Brong Ahafo region, called for peaceful co-existence among all factions within the NDC in Ashanti.
On the question of combining roles by overseeing activities in both the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions, Mr Opoku said even though it would be difficult he is equal to the task. He however, noted that he would count on the co-operation of all.
The announcement of Mr. Eric Opoku as an acting Ashanti Regional Minister was contained in a statement signed by Communications Minister, Edward Omane Boamah.
The appointment followed the termination of the appointment of Dr Samuel Sarpong as Ashanti Regional Minister and his deputy, Joseph Yammin, following frequent squabbles.
It is the first time in the history of the country that both a substantive Regional Minister and his deputy have been sacked.
