‘It has become a party jamboree & they also told GBC to take the camera off me – Mahama explains why he stopped attending independence day

Former President Mahama has explained why he stopped attending independence day celebrations.

John Dramani Mahama thinks it’s a shame that the government instructed the official broadcaster to turn off the cameras when he visited the Tamale Independence Day celebrations in 2019.

He claimed that as a former President, he was assigned to a place where he could not be seen while government officials were given a much more comforting place to his.

What’s more concerning, he claims, is that party supporters were bused and forced to wear party T-shirts and wave party flags during a claimed national festival.

“I just came from the Volta Region and when I was just leaving, they were preparing to celebrate Independence Day. I stopped going to Independence Day because it has become a party jamboree. I went to Tamale, they told GBC to take the camera off me. They bused their supporters in and filled the whole stadium. When I got into the stadium the place was quiet, I went and sat. They gave me some corner somewhere and I went and sat there and they occupied the dais and any of them who came in was welcomed with rousing noise.” He said.
