We are in hard times, cancel Independence celebrations – John Dumelo urges Akufo-Addo
Popular Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo is urging President Nana Akufo Addo to cancel the celebration of this year’s Independence Day since the country is in hard times.
According to him, taking such a move will save the country millions of cedis at a time when the country is plunged in economic crisis.
Taking to Twitter to voice out his opinion, the former NDC Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency said the the President and the authorities that be should find an alternative means to mark the day on Monday, March 6 and put on hold the fanfare that comes with huge cost as part of the celebration at the detriment of the country.
“Greetings @NAkufoAddo, respectfully we are in hard times, can you please cancel all state, regional and district Independence Day celebrations? You can do your usual “fellow Ghanaians” broadcast on tv. This will save us millions of cedis. Thanks so much,” he tweeted.
The 66th Independence Day celebration will be held on Monday, March 6 at Ho on the theme “Our unity; our strength; our purpose”, and would be honoured by thousands from across the country and the world.
The day is scheduled to be marked with national and regional activities as has been the norm over the years.
