Lionel Messi called out by Piers Morgan for Instagram activity after winning World Cup

Piers Morgan has bizarrely called out Lionel Messi for his Instagram activity after the legendary footballer won the World Cup with Argentina.

Morgan, who has made no secret of his deep admiration for Messi’s long-term rival Ronaldo in recent months, believes Messi – of all people – is currently gloating too much on social media.

We’ve heard it all now.

Messi turned his lifelong dream of winning the World Cup with his beloved Argentina into reality on Sunday night.

The 35-year-old inspired his country to glory, scoring two goals against France in arguably the greatest World Cup final of all time.

Messi also netted a penalty as Argentina secured a 4-2 victory in the shootout as his country became world champions for the first time since 1986.

What has Messi posted on Instagram since winning the World Cup?

Messi’s first Instagram post after winning the World Cup has now broken the record to become the most-liked post in Instagram history. At the time of writing it has a staggering 68.5m likes.

Messi is clearly over the moon right now and who can blame him?

This team honour means the world to the South American. There’s no doubt that he would have swapped all seven of his Ballon d’Or awards in a heartbeat for this one trophy.

Lionel Messi lifts the World Cup

What did Piers Morgan tweet about Lionel Messi?

While the vast majority of football fans are thrilled for Messi, arguably the greatest footballer of all time, Morgan has decided that the revered forward is now ‘over-egging’ it on social media.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday evening, Morgan screenshotted Messi’s Instagram profile and wrote: “OK, Lionel.. we get it, you won the World Cup. You’re slightly over-egging the gloating soufflé now…”
