GUTA embark on strike over exorbitant tax rates by Government

GUTA on Tuesday declared a strike action and directed all traders to close their shops beginning Wednesday, October 19 to Monday, October 24. The action is to make known their worries to the government over the exorbitant tax rates and the depreciation of the local currency against the US dollar.


Dr. Joseph Obeng president of The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) when interviewed on Kessben news revealed that, the strike action is to alert government to employ innovative way to focus on the aid of traders on showing results.


Early on Monday morning, Kessben news visited Accra Central to see if traders have observed a complete strike against inflation and increasing taxes on them.


Kessben news interacted with some of the shops operators in view of the GUTA strike, according to them they are highly in support of the strike because stocks and goods affected by the high inflation Is draining them.


Other operating shops stated that they do not belong to the Ghana Union of Traders association but Traders advocacy group of Ghana so they are not affected by the strike but they have to be in all black to support GUTA traders.


Some shops were seen operating fully without observing the strike because they disclosed that, embarking on the strike will not bring a positive effect on traders.
