Islamic SHS shooting: ‘That should never happen again’ – Speaker of parliament warns Police
Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin has sounded a strong caution to the police administration following Monday’s clash with the demonstrating students.
The police allegedly opened tear gas at the protesting students on Monday, resulting in about 40 of the students collapsing and being hospitalized.
The speaker of parliament on Tuesday’s sitting in parliament added his voice to the excesses by the Ghana police in recent times.
Minority chief whip in parliament, Hon Muntaka brought the attention of the house to disturbances that occurred and members had their inputs put across.
The minority caucus in parliament called for a committee to be set up by the house to investigate the matter but it was later agreed that since the IGP has opened an investigation into the case, the house should liaise with the IGP’s investigation.
After the resolution, the speaker nearly went ballistic following recent attacks by the police on the citizenry and warned the police administration over their incessant attacks.
