Comparison in Bawumia’s analysis apt because Mahama accused NPP of mismanaging economy – Amoah
The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia did a comparative analysis in his public address on the economy due to the accusation made by former President John Dramani Mahama that the Akufo-Addo administration mismanaged the economy, Nyhiaeso Member of Parliament, Dr Stephen Amoah, has said.
He said the Finance Minister and the President had already spoken about the state of the economy on different occasions hence, it was not necessary for Dr Bawumia to speak on the same issues if he was going to shy away from E-Levy which was the expectation of the people.
In an interview on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show hosted by Alfred Ocansey, Dr. Kobby Mensah explained that the expectation of Ghanaian’s of the Vice President’s State of the Economy presentation was his position on E-Levy not the unnecessary comparison.
“People’s expectation of his address was on E-Levy but he deliberately swerved that. I was surprised he went as far back as 2007 for comparison; 2016 could be ideal. I don’t think people are interested in the comparison.
“The interests of the people are in the state of play. It is about the current situation. People wanted to hear what the solutions to our problems are.” He told 3FM
Dr Bawumia said among other things that “The average rate of GDP growth for 2017-2021 (including COVID-19 period) was 5.3% compared to an average rate of growth of 3.0% between 2013 and 2016. Therefore even with COVID-19, the growth of the economy is fundamentally stronger than it was in the 2013-2016 period.”
