W/R: CODA Holds Stakeholder Engagement With MMDCEs
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib, on Tuesday, March 8 2022 held a meeting with the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives at the Western Regional Coordinating Council Office in Takoradi in the Western Region.
The meeting forms part of CODA’s stakeholders’ engagement which seeks to reinforce and strengthen the ties between CODA and its development partners. The purpose of the engagement was also to brief the MMDCEs on completed and ongoing projects under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) in the region.
Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib in his address appealed to the MMDCEs to collaborate with the Authority since their role as partners is crucial in the successful implementation of developmental projects and programmes in the region. He further outlined some social intervention programmes being implemented by the Authority, he mentioned the CODA Credit Union, CODA Drive, CODA Health Train among others.
Mr. Dennis Owusu Boateng, the Deputy Director of Research Monitoring and Evaluation of CODA, in his presentation, highlighted several projects that have been completed in the region with others at various stages of completion. He indicated that a total number of one hundred and eighteen (118) projects are ongoing in all the seventeen (17) constituencies in the Region. He said the projects were aimed at improving socio-economic development and are in the areas of education, bridges, roads, drainage, sanitation, sports among others.
The head of Mobilisation and Private Partnership, Mr. William Ghansah in his presentation seized the opportunity to explicate the CODA Clean Beach Campaign initiative to the MMDCEs since they play key roles in the enforcement of sanitation laws. According to him the Clean Beach Campaign initiative seeks to improve solid waste management and general environmental conditions at the beach communities; to promote green investments.
According to him, the CODA Clean Beach initiative will facilitate job creation for the youth in the coastal communities as well as income-generating opportunities from plastic waste management. It will also promote sports development and enhance the quality of social life of people in beach communities through the provision of sporting facilities.
The Regional Minister and the MMDCEs in the region pledged their continuous support and collaboration with CODA since they are development partners. The Authority under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) has implemented several projects across the one hundred and nine (109) Constituencies along the six (6) regions of the coastal zone.
