“Stop the talk about going into opposition, The Alternative is uninmaginably scary”- NPP UK Chairman

In a very fiery speech, delivered by the Current NPP UK Chairman, also aspiring to become a National Vice Chairman of the NPP, he first asked for the party to remember the one of the founding fathers of “our tradition whose untimely death came on the 4th February 1965”.

He reminded party faithful of the sacrifices of this Hon Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah, who himself never had the chance to see what “we are witnessing today, the progress our party and country has made so far, with many more to come”.

in a packed hall, as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the NPP Manchester chapter, Kwaku Nkansah Paanii, said that to Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah are attributed these words “ the party’s policy is to liberate the energies of the people for the growth of a property owning democracy in this land, with right to life, freedom and justice, as the principles to which the Government and laws of the land should be dedicated in order specifically to enrich life, property and liberty of each and every citizen”.

That’s the hallmark of our tradition and let’s support both party and government in the achievement of these aims.

In attendance were party faithful that included the General Secretary of the NPP, John BOADU, His Excellency the High Commissioner to the Court of St. James, Chairman of the Board of Ghana Investment Promotion Council – Alex Kwaku Dadey, Hon Akwasi Katakyie Awuah Ababio of the Diaspora Affairs office – Office of the President, Hon Salaam Mustafa – Office of His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah of the National Cathedral Project, various chiefs of our communities as well Branch Executives and Chapter Chairmen.

He praised the government, under the stewardship of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, supported wholeheartedly the E-levy as the basis of taking charge of our financial destiny and asked members to stop talking about the party, heading into opposition.

He said “As Margaret Thatcher, a one time conservative Prime Minister remarked, “you turn if you want, this lady is not for turning”, so will I say to you “you go into opposition if you want to, we are not coming with you”.

He also added “The alternative my friends, is very very unimaginably scary. It’s like putting the Fox in charge of the Chicken coop”, referring to NDC as the alternative.

In rousing the crowd and sounding like Martin Luther King Jnr, he remarked;

“For I have a dream , that one day our Ghana, will be flowing with excellence, a teaming youth who are gainfully employed, a retiring workforce who are looked after nicely, an educated and capable human resource running Ghana effectively and efficiently, an industrialised nation, in charge of its own destiny, where many flock to, to learn from us, all under an NPP government,

“because I have been to the mountain top, oh yes, I have seen the power and I’m not about to let go, when there is more to do for our people and our country, Ghana”.

Appealing directly to the both the General Secretary and the Chairman of Ghana investment Promotion Council, he said

“Mr. General Secretary, can I suggest that just as the Conservative party has in the UK, that our National Vice Chairmen have specific to roles; have a Vice chairman in charge of membership to retain, grow and see to the welfare of our party membership. The Conservatives also have a Vice chairman in charge of Finance, who consistently and regularly does fundraising….

Secondly, An expansion in the electoral college of the party internally – the expansion at polling stations and one member one vote. We must send a signal to our membership that being a member of our party isn’t the privilege of the few, but the birthright of many.

Three, and this is one for my very good friend Alex Dadey – to fashion the external branches into vehicles of inward investment into Ghana, in his role as Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council

And finally, Mr. General Secretary , effect Article 8(5) immediately for the inclusion of external branches on the important committees of party I.e. NEC and National Council”.

He expressed his appreciation to Branch Executives, party faithful, the General Secretary, the High Commissioner and to the Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council, for their support of his administration over the last few years which ends in May 2022 and added that as he goes on to aspire for another internal party National Office, that he would continue to have the same support from all and sundry.

He concluded by galvanising support for 2024, saying;

We are called to serve, you and I, not be served. We are called to offer up our best, you and I, not our worst.

As we celebrate the 10th year of NPP UK in Manchester, our readiness for battle in 2024 should be in no doubt, this isn’t the time to quiver, neither is this the time to show feebleness, we must exude courage, we must display unity and preparedness, we must take the high ground, shedding all speeches of negativity, for as you have heard time and time again from our Former President JA Kufuor and I don’t want to sound like a broken record “It is better to be a messenger whe your government is in power than to be the General Secretary, when your party is in opposition”

My clarion call today, is for us all to rally together, in unison to defeat the forces of retrogression in our country; to lift aloft the flag of perseverance and oneness and maintain the only party that can build our Ghana, the New Patriotic Party.

It is to this, that we are called and long may this be our banner.
