IMF will give us $1 billion with so many conditionalities, but E levy will give us Ghc7 billion without conditions – Boaben Asamoah
The communication director of the Ruling New Patriotic Party, Lawyer Boaben Asamoah has explained Government’s eagerness to ensure the proposed E levy is approved.
The proposed E levy by the Government in the 2022 budget has been the most talked-about issue in Ghana after the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Attah presented the 2022 budget in parliament two months ago.
According to the government, the introduction of the Electronic tax will help build the economy by generating GHC7 Billion annually.
The Government Economic experts say the country is likely to turn to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial assistance if the E levy is not approved.
Lawyer Boabeng Asamoah speaking with Mr. Speaker on Kessben FM/TV explained the rationale behind Government’s insistence to ensure that the E levy is approved.
According to him, the government is unwilling to turn to the IMF for financial assistance due to the many conditionalities associated with IMF funding.
He stated that the IMF will give the country $1billion with so many conditions if Ghana turns to them meanwhile the E levy can generate Ghc7 billion without any imposed conditions.
