Junior doctors, police on collision course at CAGD

About 30 armed policemen have surrounded the premises of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to prevent what they describe as an “unlawful gathering” of some junior doctors from across the country.
The junior doctors, numbering about 40, are at the CAGD to submit their documents to facilitate the processing of their salaries which they say have not been paid for the past 11 months.
However, according to the Greater Accra Regional Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Freeman Kumashie, the group’s gathering is unlawful.
He said the police were waiting for the leadership of the group  to arrive so they could be charged with unlawful gathering.
But speaking on Accra-based Peace FM, spokesperson for the group, Dr Nana Kissi Ataffuah expressed his disappointment in the police’s action, stressing that the gathering was not a demonstration.
He said, “We are not going on a demonstration and are not acting violently. We are angry; Yes but we are not acting violently. We are just here to present our documents for them to pay us our money. We are tired, and we are hungry.”
“Is this how they are paying us for our patriotism? Is this the mistake we have made to demand our monies?”
