RTI Commission Promotes Citizens Access To Information

Ghana marked its maiden international Day of Universal access to information after the passage of the RTI where stake holders enlightened the public in understanding the Act.

The ceremony was held at the Alisa Hotel, the Commission said it has planned to roll out massive sensitization programmes and will also select some schools and visit them to engage students on the Act.

During the ceremony, the executive secretary of the RTI, Mr. Yaw Boateng Sarpong appealed for adequate resources to facilitate its mandate in ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.

Mr. Yaw Boateng Sarpong also indicated that, the commission so far has received about 16 cases where nine has been reviewed since the act was passed and has therefore called on to the public to send more input.

The information Minister, Hon. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah also stated that, the RTI Act is a requisite for good governance and sustainable development.
