Cuba Ambassador to Ghana pays farewell call on Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

H.E. Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez, Cuban Ambassador to Ghana paid a farewell call on Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hon Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong on Wednesday September 29, 2021.

Hon Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong in his welcome address congratulated H.E. Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez on the great strides made during his tour of duty.

He recalled the longstanding cordial relations between Ghana and Cuba dating back to Ghana’s independence and acknowledged that the past few years have witnessed the further strengthening of these ties.

The Deputy Minister expressed the hope that Ghana-Cuba relations will continue to flourish on all fronts for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

He commended the Ambassador for his hard work during his tenure and refer to the assistance offered by the Cuban Embassy and the relevant Cuban authorities during the official visits of H.E. the President, Vice-President, Hon. Foreign Minister and other high ranking government officials to Cuba.

On Bilateral Cooperation, Hon Kwaku Ampratwum thanked the Ambassador for his role in facilitating the successful enrolment of almost 300 students to study medicine in Cuba within the framework of two academic services agreements under the sponsorship of GNPC Foundation and Ghana Scholarships Secretariat.

He lauded the efforts of Amb. Despaigne in liaising with the Ghanaian government officials in other MDAs, especially the Ministry of Health and Education to identify and explore areas of bilateral cooperation.

He further congratulated the out-going Ambassador for being a reliable link between the governments of Ghana and Cuba and constantly following-up on matters of mutual interest. Mentioned the Ambassador’s role in the extension of the contract of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Ghana which paved the way for the recent arrival of new doctors in Accra.

The Deputy Minister in charge of Political and Economy affairs at the Ministry praised H.E. Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez for a good work done so far and wish him continued success as he ends his duty tour.

He conveyed Government’s commitment to extend to his successor the same level of cooperation accorded the Ambassador and expressed the hope that the in-coming Cuban envoy will build on the remarkable achievements of the Ambassador in enhancing the relations between Ghana and Cuba.
