Ejura Report: It’s an insult to tell the people of Ejura that they need recreational centers to curb riot – Madi Jibril

Former deputy national organizer of the National Democratic Party (NDC), Madi Jibril has reacted to the recommendations by the government’s committee on the Ejura riots.

The staunch NDC member speaking on Maakye with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben FM/TV underscored that some of the recommendations by the committee are a direct insult to the people of Ejura.

The committee recommended in a bid to curb future occurrences, there must be more recreational centers like football pitches which will engage particularly the youth of Ejura but Mr. Madi believes having more recreational centers in Ejura will not prevent a possible future occurrence but the general problem of unemployment must be addressed.

He noted that people especially the youth are in need of jobs more than recreational centers which may not solve the problem but is likely to add salt to injury.

“Some of the recommendations are an insult to the people of Ejura. To say they need more recreational centers like having football pitches and others are not the solutions.”

”Football can also bring fights if the youth are not employed. The youth of Ejura needs jobs, I don’t think they need recreational centers to curb violence. Most of them are not employed and they easily join anything but when these guys are employed, they will be fully occupied” He said

“I was expecting at least something on how journalists in the country should handle their work. A recommendation should have been made about that. The guy who died for instance died as result of protecting a journalist.”

”The report was delayed but they should have pleaded for more time to add some significant recommendations. It’s not about only Ejura but this can happen anywhere, that’s why it’s important to have added these significant recommendations. I think they should have a relook and do appendix” He concluded.
