Private Sector can solve unemployment problem – Joe Ghartey

Students of the University of Cape Coast, with the business idea of developing an insect farm that will breed the black soldier fly for farmers who are engaged in livestock production, won the Second Edition of “Africa’s Biggest Idea Challenge” held at the University of Cape Coast on Friday 10th September, 2021.

The students presented a variety of interesting business proposals in areas such as ICT, packaging, fashion, food and beverages, agriculture and events planning. Speaking at the ceremony, Hon Joe Ghartey, the Special Guest of Honour, applauded all the contestants and said they were all winners.

He recounted his days as a student entrepreneur and told the gathering that he is still an entrepreneur. He indicated that Government had several initiatives for the private sector and he hoped the private sector would take advantage of the initiatives.

Hon Ghartey stated that in his view, the answer for the creation of employment for the teeming unemployed youths, was in the private sector and not the public sector. He wished all participants well and said he was so impressed by the program that he was offering to sponsor the next event in 2022.

Hon Joe Ghartey surprised the best female entrepreneur with an unexpected monetary award.
