Gunshot That Killed 27yr-Old Lady At Nima Not Deliberate – Residents

Some residents at Free Town in Nima, where a young lady, Eunice Kessewaa Yeboah was hit by a stray bullet fired by jubilant friends and family at a marriage ceremony, said the shooting was not deliberate.

This was confirmed by the sister of the deceased, Comfort Arthur, in an interview with Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day.

According to Comfort, some of the residents had told them not to complain about the death of their relative because the shooting was not targeted but one just for jubilation in celebration of a marriage ceremony.

Narrating how some health facilities attended to them when they took the now deceased Eunice to the hospital after the bullet hit her, Comfort said it took the hospital over an hour to work on Eunice’s hospital card while she (the now deceased) waited in a commercial taxi.

“The healthcare delivery failed us due to the no bed syndrome and the difficulty in assessing blood to save her sister’s life”.

“My sister got scared and was escaping the shots, little did she know that she would be hit by it,” Comfort recounted.

She said at the time the happening, “most of the roads were blocked due to numerous marriage ceremonies on that day so there was difficulty in accessing the routes to the hospital.

Adding that, “they ended up using a farther route to get to the hospital”.

According to Comfort, the firing of gunshots in the community, for some time now, symbolizes celebration and their complaints concerning such practices have proved futile.

Speaking on the arrest of culprits, the mother of the deceased, Janet Agbomenu said she has not been informed about the culprits involved in the incident despite reports by the Director of Public Affairs at the Greater Accra Regional Police, DSP Juliana Obeng.

She condemned the act and charged the government to ban the seizure of roads for marriage ceremonies to end the problem of people losing their lives in the process of being transported to health delivery centres.

The mother of the deceased also suggested that individuals possessing unregistered guns should be arrested and punished to cease.

26-year-old Eunice was on her way home on Sunday, August 22, when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to reports by family members, the bullet hit her through her butt and penetrated her stomach.
