BoG Governor assures investors of Ghana’s economic progress, vows to sustain stability

Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama has assured investors in Thailand that Ghana is making significant economic progress, with policymakers committed to maintaining the discipline needed to sustain investor confidence.

Dr Asiama made the remarks during a meeting with institutional investors, brokers and fund managers on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings.

The discussions focused on Ghana’s economic outlook and measures being implemented to ensure that the country’s recent economic stability is sustained.

The Governor highlighted a decline in inflation from 23.8 per cent at the end of 2024 to 5.2 per cent in September 2026. He also pointed to cumulative reductions in the policy rate totalling 1,400 basis points, bringing it down to 14 per cent.

According to him, these developments have created a stronger foundation for investment, business planning and economic growth.

Dr Asiama further cited Moody’s decision on October 9 to upgrade Ghana’s sovereign credit rating from Caa1 to B3, with a stable outlook, as additional recognition of the country’s economic progress.

The ratings agency attributed the improvement to better financing conditions, lower borrowing costs and sustained fiscal discipline, supported by institutional reforms.

The Governor acknowledged that investors needed assurance that economic policies would remain consistent and that the economy could withstand potential shocks.

He said the Bank of Ghana’s priorities included rebuilding international reserves, strengthening institutions and safeguarding macroeconomic stability.

Dr Asiama added that the central bank was closely monitoring global developments, including movements in the US dollar and gold prices, financing conditions and tensions in the Middle East, ahead of the Monetary Policy Committee’s November meeting.

“Our responsibility is to reinforce Ghana’s progress through credible policy and sustained action, creating the conditions for long-term investment and lasting economic opportunity,” he said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Ghana’s economic managers to maintaining credible policies and implementing reforms to consolidate the country’s recovery and create a favourable environment for long-term investment.
