GIS Gets COVID – 19 Testing Centre

The minister of Interior Hon Ambrose Dery has officially commissioned a Covid – 19 Testing centre near the Ghana Immigration Service headquarters in Accra. The centre that is going to augment other testing centres have the capacity to to test over 200 patients per day and has modern PCR and ACR machines. Testing results can be released within thirty minutes.

The machines are being manned by personnel from the GIS. Giving the welcome address, the Comptroller General of GIS , Mr Kwame Asuah Takyi assured the public of putting the machines to good use to test all travellers and traders who use the routes to Ghana to hel reduce the incidence of the deadly pandemic that is plaguing Ghana and the world.

According to him a philanthropic organisation assisted them with that facility and he thanked them for that kind gesture. He advised his men to take very good care of the machine to justify the confidence reposed in them .

He contended that as gate keepers of the country’s borders, the do their best to track down any sneakers carrying the disease I to the country by being vigilant and alert on all immigrants in the coutry’s borders.

The Minister of Interior, Hon Ambrose Dery thanked the donors of the facility and urged the service to put to good use. He to the gathering that he is so elated to Commission the facility that has come so timely in the current state of the Delta variant that spreads and kills very fast. He indicated that the president of the Republic is doing everything possible to tackle the pandemic and all other people and agencies must collaborate to deal with the deadly disease. “Am hopeful that if we all play our roles very well, like the president has been saying, this one too, shall pass and Ghana will bounce back once again.”He took the opportunity to advice the handlers of the facility to work very hard to spot out infected travellers to save the country from the spread of the disease.

“Let me sound a note of warning that anny one who does anything to tarnish the image of the service will be dealt with. Currently some personnel are before the disciplinary Committee for various offences and if found guilty, would be punished accordingly. Please comport yourselves as trained and disciplined men and women of this Noble organization and desist from any untoward behaviours because such tendencies would not be tolerated

“The Hon Minister reiterated that the country’s land borders remain closed till further notice as a result of the pandemic. He emphasized the Government would not succumb to the pressure and agitations coming from some quarters to reopen the country’s borders.

He admitted that the borders are penetrable he hopes the service would double up to close in on miscreants who may take advantage of that loophole to create commotion on borders. Later after commissioning,he tested for his status as well as the Comptroller General and the Chief Director of Ministry of Interior. A certificate of recognition was given to the donors of the facility to appreciate their gesture.
