I almost lost my life because of politics – MzBel

Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, more commonly known as Mzbel has disclosed that she received threats to her life due to her endorsement of the NDC during the 2016 elections.

In an interview with Caleb Nii Boye on Showbiz 92.7, the music diva said that she would no longer support the National Democratic Congress as she had in the past since she almost lost her life.

The ‘Asibolanga’ singer revealed that she will continue to support the political party but in a different way as a result of the exposure and lessons.

“I have been through a lot because of politics,” she expressed, her voice laced with a mixture of frustration and determination. “I have been attacked in traffic, I have been attacked at home, I have been attacked on stage. A grown woman actually egged me on stage because of politics,” MzBel recounted.

The “E dey bee” singer revealed her decision to heed the advice of her dedicated fanbase and stand true to her core identity as a musician and performer.

Drawing from her life-altering experiences, the 43-year-old singer and businesswoman declared her intention to back her chosen political party in alternative ways, thereby avoiding the harsh glare of criticism that had marred her previous endeavour

Bursting onto the scene in 2006, her trailblazing hit songs like “16 years,” “Awoso me,” “E dey bee,” “Asibolanaga,” and “Saucy Girl” became anthems that resonated with Ghanaians from all walks of life.

The legacy she built extends beyond her solo work, as MzBel has collaboratively graced the music scene alongside revered artists like the late Castro, Debbie, Screw Face, and Quata.

But her endeavours extend beyond music. As an entrepreneur and global ambassador for people with disabilities, she has lent her voice to causes beyond the spotlight.
