Covid-19 26th update: Government should have tightened measures on funerals, other ceremonies-GMA

The President of Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Frank Ankobea has revealed that some expectations of Ghana Medical Association were not met during President Akufo-Addo’s 26th address to the nation on measures being in place to stop the spread of covid-19.

Dr. Ankobea noted that there should have been stiffer measures by the government to put in place in the area of celebrations and funfair.

Dr. Ankobea noted that President Akufo-Addo should have tightened the number of persons who are to attend funerals, parties, weddings, and other occasions, rather than saying funerals should not exceed 2 hours.

“The President should have tightened the number of persons attending funerals, weddings, parties, and others. For the president to say they should do social distancing at funerals and other ceremonies can’t be possible ” he stressed

Speaking to Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben Maakye, the GMA president added that the new variant which is Delta variant spreads faster and needs serious attention than what is being done.

“Covid-19 Delta variant spread faster and we need to put strict measures in place to curb the spread. It doesn’t matter one has taken his or her vaccines, he can still contract the virus” Dr. Ankobea

He entreated Ghanaians to practice the covid-19 etiquettes to protect themselves from this deadly virus.

“We’re not out of the challenge yet, so let’s all support each other by following all the protocols, wearing nose masks, washing our hands, using sanitizer, distancing ourselves from clouding areas. If we continue doing these we can defeat the virus” he urged

President Akufo-Addo on Sunday, 25th July 2021 addressed the nation on the measures being taken against the spread of covid-19.

President said “I have emphasised the need for the strict observance of safety protocols at funerals and weddings, and the measures are a set of enhanced protocols which must be adhered to by all at funerals and weddings”

“The wearing of masks is mandatory, and persons must respect the enhanced hygiene protocols. Funerals should not go beyond two hours and post-event receptions are banned” President Akufo-Addo added
