Sanitation Minister Welcomes NUGS “Fix It” Campaign

The leadership of NUGS on Wednesday 21st July,2021 interacted with Hon. Cecilia Dapaah ( Minister of Sanitation & Water Resources ). The interaction afforded NUGS the opportunity to know more about what pertains in the sanitation ministry.

She informed the students leadership that the Ministry is responsible for Sanitation and Water Resources therefore achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (6) ( Clean water and Sanitation ) is the Ministry’s mission and that of the President of the republic of Ghana.

She welcomed NUGS idea of embarking on a ” fix it ” campaign which is aimed at helping to fix and repair damaged, dilapidated and destroyed infrastructures in our schools. She called for a proposal to that effect.

Hon.Cecillia Dapaah reiterated that her vision is to eradicate “Open defecation “ and called on the National Union of Ghana students to help spread her message to the constituents. She also called on the entire students populace and the youth to perform their basic cleaning and sanitation practices and not to wait on the Ministry to ask them to do the needful.

She also used the opportunity to share with NUGS some of the achievements of the ministry such as supplying of waste Bins to various Institutions including Universities, Ghana Police Service, etc to cater for their sanitation and waste management and indicated that the ministry will be embarking on the construction of 200 Ultra modern toilet projects in Greater Kumasi which senior high schools won’t be left out

She encouraged the Leadership of NUGS to sensitize and educate their constituents and made a call for the implementation and strict enforcement of the sanitation laws in the country .
