Deployment of Military at Ejura was timely – Nifahene to Probing Committee
Nana Osei Kwadwo Ansebie II, Nifahene of Ejura Traditional Council has commended the military for the swift response to the Ejura clashes, adding that the deployment of personnel to stop the rioting by the Irate Zongo youth in Ejura was a step in the right direction.
He indicated that Ejura in the past years has experienced such demonstrations and it takes only the intervention of the military to restraint calm and patience whenever such protest is beyond the Police control.
He also remarked that the infuriated youth had gone to vandalize the charge Office at the Ejura police station, cars parked at the compound, and the Municipal revenue check point.
Nana Osei Kwadwo Ansebie mentioned that “getting the military in to control the rioting to save lives and protecting properties was a good thing”. However, he expressed his worry about the casualties that occurred. The chief disclosed this to the three-member committee on behalf of the traditional council as a response when questioned if the deployment of the military was needed.
Considering how the rioting was escalating, Nana in his personal opinion added that the timing of the presence of the troop was also on point.
Ejura Nifahene further reacted that, the police idea of dispatching water cannon to the cemetery could be a sign of proactive, nevertheless, he believed the youth were also infuriated because of the presence of the cannon at the graveyard. Present before the committee on day 7 were Barima Osei Hwedia II, Chief of Ejura, and other sub-chiefs in the traditional area.
