MFWA TO PAY NCA FOR INFORMATION

The Human Rights Court in Accra under Judge Gifty Agyei has today ruled that the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) pays the National Communications Authority(NCA) a fee of Ghc1,500.00 instead of Ghc2,000.00. to access information on the number of Radio stations shut down by the NCA in 2017.

This information was made public at a forum organised by the MFWA on the Right To Information (RTI) Law in Accra. The full statement on the Judge’s ruling is yet to be made public. On July 22, 2020, the MFWA made the request to the NCA based on Article 21 (1f) of the 1992 constitution and under the RTI Act 2019(Act 989).

At the same event, a Guidebook for Journalists in Ghana was launched by Justice K A Ofori-Atta a retired High Court Judge and chairman of the Right to Information Commission. In attendance at the forum were Mrs Linda Ofori-Kwafo (Executive Director GII, Mr Samson Lardy Ayenini a Lawyer and Media Practioner, Mr Manasseh Azure and investigative Journalist, Ms Susanne Fuchs-Mwakideu the Program Director of DW Akademie in Ghana.
