Aubameyang rules out Tottenham move after 'weird' negotiations in 2012

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he will never sign for Tottenham due to ‘weird’ negotiations with the club in 2012.
Aubameyang scored his 33rd goal in 38 games this season as Borussia Dortmund took a commanding 3-0 lead over Spurs in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday, and claimed he would never seek a move to White Hart Lane.
“If Spurs ever came back in me for me, I’d say no,” said Aubameyang.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year revealed how he almost signed for Tottenham four years ago following prolonged talks with the club when he was playing for St-Etienne.
But the move never materialised and Aubameyang was frustrated with how Spurs conducted the negotiations.
“In the end everything became a bit weird, I didn’t really like the way things were done,” Aubameyang added.
Aubameyang instead joined Dortmund in July 2013 and he has proved to be a huge success at the Westfalenstadion.
Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 allowed Aubameyang to establish himself as one of world football’s best strikers.
His performances have attracted attention from clubs around Europe, but Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel is adamant he will not be leaving the club in the summer.
“Everybody has to accept that he has a long-term contract without any possibility to step out,” Tuchel said.
“He signed this contract because he feels good here. He feels that he can still develop and he can still grow.
“I can imagine that a lot of clubs see his performances, see his talent and see his personality and can imagine that Auba plays for them but he has a contract and we have our own goals.
“We want to keep this squad together and develop it into something extraordinary.”
