Be Guided by your Human Skills as new IGP – WA West MP advises COP Dampare
The Member of Parliament for Wa West constituency, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu has called on COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to be guided by his human skills as he takes over as new Inspector General of Police to create a harmonious environment for Ghanaians so far as internal security is concerned.
The former executive secretary to IGP remarked that, in police operations, human skills are very crucial. He added that if the human skills are strong, morale and Intelligence will be high which will facilitate the police to easily detect future threats and take proactive measures to such dangers. He made the remarks in an interview with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben Fm ‘Maakye’ show on Thursday following the appointment of COP Dr Dampare as new IGP.
COP Dr. George Akufo Dampare takes over from James Oppong- Boanuh as new IGP, who, through a statement from the presidency, is to proceed on leave on the same date.
The MP noted that gradually insecurity is becoming rampant in the country, hence, urged Dr. Dampare to institute strict measures in place to eradicate such security challenges. He stated that the new IGP should also make sure that, internal security environment is safe for the police to operate and be effective.
Reacting to how neighboring countries are suffering from terrorist attacks, the MP further asked COP to cooperate with the military to make security tighten against such attacks from entering the nation.
However, he admonished the newly IGP to ensure that, the joint operations with the police and the military should not be frequent. He was of the view that, the joint police with military visibility is becoming common in the streets which has a chance to destroy the police.
“We call the military to assist the police when they are needed, they work with the police and go in a short time. But if it seems the police will walk with the military every day or stay with them, a time is coming we will chip in the military and destroyed the police” he stated.
