AG, Interior Ministry sued over Gitmo detainees
The Attorney General and the Ministry of Interior have been sued over government’s decision to host two former Guantanamo Bay detainees in the country. Margaret Banful, a former conference officer at the Foreign Affairs Ministry and one Henry Nana Boakye filed the suit on Monday at the Supreme Court.
They are praying the court to declare the move by the government as “unconstitutional” since Parliament was not consulted over the matter. A decision by government to host two supposed terrorists and former inmates of Guantanamo Bay, Mahmud Umar Mahammad Bin Atef and Khalid Mahammad Salih Al-Dhuby in the country has caused a massive public outcry. Though the US government has assured that the two do not pose any major security threats to the nation, many still doubt the claims by the US and the Ghana government.
