Resettlement of ex-Gitmo detainees; US not to be trusted – Bernard Mornah

The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Benard Mornah says the United States are not to be trusted following government’s decision to resettle the two former detainees from the American Guantanamo Bay Prison.
The two former Guantanamo bay detainees, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby, had been in detention for 14 years, after being reportedly linked with terrorist group Al-Qaeda.
Mr Mornah expressed disappointment with government’s decision and pointed out America’s questionable foreign policy. He even cited the alleged role the Americans played in the overthrow of then-president Kwame Nkrumah in 1966. Mr Mornah said, “I am totally disappointed that our government accepted these people particularly given the history of the United States and its involvement in destabilisation across the world.”
“If we are looking for the number one terrorist in the world, you cannot escape the United States of America,” he also added. Mr Mornah believes the only reason the two Yemeni men were transferred to Ghana was because the American government is trying to avoid compensation for possible wrongful roiling and detention. “They will start seeking for justice and maybe the United States will pay damages for wrongful profiling and what have you so, cleverly, they are taking them to countries were these people would not be able to seek justice.” He concluded saying, the arrangement that saw the two Yemenis transfered to Ghana was unacceptable. “Today we have to bear the brunt of it. It is unacceptable.”
