The Brazilian’s stunning November displays have seen him become the first ever Barcelona player to win the Spanish top flight’s player of the month award
Neymar has made history by becoming the first ever Barcelona player to receive La Liga’s Player of the Month award.
The 23-year-old scored five goals and set up another two in four La Liga games in November to earn the prize.
Neymar starred in the 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad on November 8 with two goals – one of them a wonder volley – and returned after the international break to score one and assist another in Barca’s 4-0 Clasico humiliation of Real Madrid on November 21.
The Selecao skipper – who excelled while Lionel Messi was out injured until the Bernabeu Clasico – capped a superb month with another brace and an assist in the 4-0 Camp Nou win against Real Sociedad on November 28.
No Barcelona player had ever won the award since its inception in 2013, with the 2014-15 Spanish champions not among the nine different clubs who have been represented in the list of monthly winners.
The Catalan club wrote on their official website: “Astonishingly, not only is this the first time Neymar has won the Spanish League’s player of the month award, it is the first time any Barcelona player has taken it home at all.”
Barca’s Clasico rivals Real Madrid have had three winners – Cristiano Ronaldo (twice) and Karim Benzema – while 2013-14 champions Atletico Madrid have seen their players rewarded on six occasions.
Luis Enrique’s side lead La Liga by two points after 14 games, with Neymar top of the goal charts with 14 – one ahead of Barca teammate Luis Suarez.
