Rawlings endorses Zanetor for – President – 2020

Even before she secures the mandate of members of the National Democratic Congress in the Klottey Korle constituency to lead the governing party into the 2016 parliamentary election, former President Jerry John Rawlings has taking the first step in the endorsement of his daughter, Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings’ presidential ambition in 2020, as reported by The aL-hAJJ last week.
The NDC founder, last week, openly approved the decision by his daughter, a medical doctor-turned-politician to contest the November 7 parliamentary primaries on the ticket of the NDC in the Klottey Korle constituency as a harbinger to her presidential ambition.
While many thought the former President was only throwing his support in pursuit of his daughter’s parliamentary ambition, sources at the Ridge and Adjiriganor residences of the former first family told The aL-hAJJ that Mr Rawlings’s statement “goes beyond his daughter’s parliamentary bid, it also extends to Dr Zanetor’s presidential ambition in 2020.”
“The last time, I told you Dr Zanetor is seeking to represent Klottey Korle in the 2017 parliament to prepare for the NDC flag bearer contest ahead of the 2020 elections…I can confirm to you that the old man (Mr Rawlings) and madam (Nana Konadu) have all endorsed it… that is why the old man made that statement,” our source close to the Rawlingses noted.
The former President, the source say, recently confided in close allies that her daughter will make a good president considering her integrity, tenacity and love for humanitarian work. “I’ve been Head of State before so I can identify a presidential material just by observing someone…Ezanetor is one of such persons who will make good president for Ghana,” Mr Rawlings was reported to have stated.
Addressing the media after inspecting ongoing dredging works in the Korle lagoon, Mr Rawlings told the media he and his wife Nana Konadu have given their blessings to their daughter to go for the Klottey Korle parliamentary contest of the NDC.
Without mincing words, Mr Rawlings described his 37 year old daughter as very versatile in nature, while hoping that she would be able to stand the fierce challenges of politics in Ghana in order to make her case to win the votes.
The dredging of the lagoon is an initiative by Dr Ezenator, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the residents of the area.
On her part, Dr Zanetor, whiles responding to opponents hounding her out of the race because they say she is not a member of the NDC, noted that, “I know there are people who will do everything to distract me off my ambition but this is nothing to take me off the hook.”
According to her, she has been a card-bearing member of the NDC since 2006 and has been on the party’s campaign trail since 1992.
Even though Dr Zanetor has indicated that her decision to contest the Klottey Korle seat on the ticket of the NDC has been recent, sources close to her have disclosed to The aL-hAJJ,“she has been gearing up for this for some time now in order to make history and, the time is now”.
Just as American President, Hussein Barack Obama, the daughter of the NDC founder, sources say, is seeking to serve only a term in parliament after which she will stake a claim to lead the governing party into the 2020 elections as President Mahama’s successor.
This paper has gathered that supporters of Dr Ezenator’s decision to achieve what her mother, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, failed to accomplish when she attempted to contest the 2012 elections Presidential polls, have started making interesting political permutations in furtherance of the former first couple’s first child’s presidential ambition.
Her background as a Voltarian and Ashanti, her supporters say, makes her the ideal and perfect candidate the NDC would want to present for the 2020 elections; the Volta, Central, Western and the three Northern regions, having had the opportunity to present candidates to serve at the highest office of the land on its ticket.
That, Dr Zanetor will handsomely beat incumbent NDC MP, Nii Armah Ashitey and three other candidates in the November 7 primaries to grab the parliamentary candidate slot is no news, according to The aL-hAJJ’s sources in the Klottey Korle constituency, “what we are looking forward to is for her to retain the seat with a huge margin in the 2016 general elections to further boost president Mahama’s one touch vow”
