Ecobank Manager shot dead
Operations Manager of the Labone branch of Ecobank, Seth Akyea, has been shot dead.
Mr Akyea, 40, was said to have been killed by three unidentified men in front of his Kasoa residence last Friday at about 9:30 pm.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the victim was with his fiancée and their little child when the incident occurred.
Information gathered indicated that the assassins trailed him and his fiancée from Weija, near Accra, until they got home.
Upon reaching his house, which is at the Kasoa New Market area, sources maintained, Mr Akyea got down from his vehicle to open the main gate but was shocked to see one of the gunmen already in the compound waiting.
The other two reportedly ordered him to surrender the keys to his Hyundai Elantra to them but he refused.
Mr Akyea, sensing danger, according to a source, asked his fiancée to go into the house with the child while he dealt with the marauders.
Two of them allegedly led Mr Akyea to his car and ordered him to sit at the passenger side of the front seat.
After engaging him in a short discourse, he was reportedly shot and pushed out of the vehicle in a Hollywood manner before the assassins sped off with the vehicle.
DSP Samuel Naa Musa, Kasoa District Crime Officer, who confirmed the story to the media, said the vehicle was later recovered at an area called Kasoa CP, having been involved in an accident.
He said police suspected the assassins crashed the vehicle before escaping.
The vehicle, with registration number GR 7072-13, has since been towed to the Kasoa Police Station while investigation into the matter continues.
He added that the police were yet to uncover the motive behind the killing and so could not jump into conclusion that it was either robbery or contract killing.
