Cesc Fabregas Named Como Interim Manager After Being Given Job By Fellow Ex-Chelsea Star

Cesc Fabregas was handed the first job of his senior managerial career on Monday.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona player was named interim manager of Italian Serie B side Como.

Fabregas had been working as a coach with Como’s youth teams since he retired from playing at the end of last season.

The 36-year-old’s promotion this week came after Moreno Longo was fired following almost 14 months in charge of Como.

Longo had overseen 16 wins, 17 draws and eight defeats.

Fabregas will make his managerial debut on November 25 when Como take on Feralpisalo at home.

But his spell in the hot-seat could be short-lived because Como said in a club statement issued on Monday: “We hope to make a new appointment for the head coach position in the near future.”

Fabregas, who featured in 17 games for Como as a player last season, owns shares in the club. So does former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry.

The man who hired Fabregas also has a strong connection to the Premier League.

That man is former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise, who is the current CEO of Como.

Wise has been working for the Italian club since 2019 when the team was in Serie D.

He previously spent 11 seasons playing for Chelsea between 1990 and 2001, during which time he won six trophies, including two FA Cups.

Fabregas was only a Chelsea player for four and a half seasons, from 2014 to 2019. He won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one EFL Cup with the Blues.
