NPP acted for support with its chalk donation exercise – NDC

Eastern Regional Branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the region of playing to the gallery with its donation of boxes of chalk to the Presby primary school at Kukurantumi.
The NDC claims the NPP is frightened by its major inroads in the region and has resorted to seizing the least opportunity it its disposal to try and project the party ahead of the 2016 elections.
The NPP’s donation comes on the back of the controversy surrounding comments made by the Second Lady Matilda Amissah-Arthur while delivering a speech in the town Tuesday.
The Headmistress of Kukurantumi Presby Primary School, Mrs. Juliet Oppong, while thanking the Second Lady for the presentation of five set of computers to the school, appealed to her to communicate to government to provide some basic materials such as log books for teachers and chalk which were in short supply in the school.
Mrs Amissah-Arthur in response said: “The Head teacher has shocked me…she said you lack chalk and log books…I am very shocked that you are today asking me about chalk…how much is a box of chalk…I won’t give you chalk today, I won’t give you chalk tomorrow.
The NPP feeling very strongly about the comments of the Second Lady, presented 400 boxes of chalk to the Presby primary school at Kukurantumi and other schools in the vicinity.
But the NDC views the NPP’s kind gesture as an opportunistic move intended to score cheap political points, adding that if the NPP was truly concerned about educational development in the area it wouldn’t have waited until now to support the schools.
In an interview on Kasapa 102.3 FM’s Si Mi So show Friday, Acting Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Francis Annor Dompreh said the NPP must not be under an illusion that this single act of donation will weigh heavily against the electoral fortunes of the NDC come 2016 election.
He added that the NDC’s Agenda 50/50 campaign which is intended to split votes in the region equally with the NPP in 2016 still remains on course.
